The Culmination of Madness
The past few days have been very intense. I pretty much locked myself in my room for 6 days straight to write, write, and write some more, only coming out once for my birthday. At the end my shoulders hurt, my fingers hurt something like arthritis, and my head REALLY hurt! Only my fellow writers would know how using your brain in a creative sense can be compared to any physical labor. It's exhausting!
But no one gets that. They assume you are sitting on the computer wasting time or killing the afternoon watching TV. I don't know how many times I've been told by people that they don't really think I'm working. I don't know if you've ever got that but let me tell you it PISSES me off! Just because I'm not at a stale 9-5 doesn't mean I'm not putting in my hours and getting my job done...MY job, the work that I WANT to do, not the work SOMEONE else wants me to do. And when I accomplished my task I felt GREAT! Nothing like finishing that novel before it kills you!!! And the journey was a rollercoaster...I was up and down and oohing and awwing thinking how I cannot wait for my readers to get their hands on this one :)
Does it stop there? No. Now I have to sketch out my marketing plan for the release of my paranormal thriller due out in August. I need to go back and fine tune the novel I just finished writing (because as everyone knows a first draft can ALWAYS be better) and I have 2 more novels that need to be written because they should've been at the publisher YESTERDAY!
What does one do for fun in between? What do you mean, that IS fun to me! But, on a side note I did participate in some live theater art for a friend of mine. I stood in as her cannibal helper while we killed and disembowled a politician...what's the message? I don't know its art! But it was fun. There's nothing like pulling jell-o out of a mock stomach wound and drinking it down as if it were blood and guts. My performance was praised which makes me laugh. My family has a history of performers and I've done my share of routines up on stage in fitness but to be honest I was just having fun. I think it's important to let go and not be so damn serious all the time. Which leads me back to the whole if you're not AT work your not working thing. LIGHTEN UP! Life is not about WORK...I mean seriously, watch The Shining. "All Work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." It also makes him GO CRAZY!
If you're going to go crazy you should do it for fun. Work is a four letter word.

How do you face your demons? Seek and Destroy!
DEMON HUNTER 2: SEEK & DESTROY is now available on FICTIONWISE.com with incredible savings.
And catch up with the first in the series. DEMON HUNTER: THE CHOSEN ONE available now
Synopsis:
Do you know what horrors lie beyond these pages? Costa Calabrese has just uncovered the truth about his past. Some truths should never be revealed. When you learn you’re the son of the worlds foremost and feared hunter of demons, life’s rules inevitably change. Now Costa has been chosen to walk in his famed father's footsteps and take up the role his bloodline demands of him...whether he wants to or not. He is a killer of killers, laying waste to the scourge of evil that threatens the existence of mankind. He is the chosen one. He is the Demon Hunter.
Demon Hunter: Seek & Destroy follows up where the first in the series Demon Hunter:The Chosen One leaves off with an unlikely trio setting out to do good for the land by battling the agents of Hell. If the portal to Hell opened up in your backyard what would you do? For centuries those that live in fear have sought the demon hunter to aide them. As the newly appointed hunter, Costa Calabrese has Hell itself to contend with before Heaven can be rebuilt. But when familiar faces turn up on the opposite side he must find out if love is strong enough to conquer evil.
Demon Hunter: Seek & Destroy delivers romance within the spectrum of horror marrying two very popular genres. With the exploration of a love interest for the hero it proves to be a bit steamier than the first in the series.
"If a life is lived without love is it truly lived at all? Love is probably the most beautiful and also the most difficult of emotions. For me to explore that phenomenon in a horror novel built a depth to the characters and the overall story that even I wasn't expecting."

My first convention - A review
I'd been considering going to a writers convention for a very long time now but never got around to actually doing it...up until recently that is. A thriller writer choosing Romantic Times BookLovers convention doesn't seem like an obvious choice but it turned out to be one of the better experiences of my life.
I met quite a few characters. (I'd like to take the time out to give a shout out to my ladies at AMP!) Not to mention some names along the way as well. Its funny though, the established authors were very personable and some of the up and comers had sticks up their bum...what's up with that?
They had parties, pitch sessions, even shopping and massage. Sounds like a day at a fancy 5-star getaway doesn't it? Did I mention the great bar area for...ahem...networking? A particular highlight for me was signing copies of The Crescent at the Expo. I loved engaging with the patrons. After 4 days I have to admit I got wiped out. If it wasn't for the famous Jeni's ice cream shop down the block I would've never got the second wind to finish out the night strong.
So as it turns out I chose the best convention for myself. All that waiting sure paid off. If you're a writer or reader looking for a convention that has alot to offer RT Booklovers con might be your ticket too. And next year in L.A. promises to be the grandaddy of them all!
